Holistic Approach
Wendi Evans PT has chosen to focus on manual therapy and alternative medicine techniques in order to provide a more comprehensive approach to healing and wellness. Many systems in the body may be contributing to, or affected by, the symptomatic region or issue. Looking at the body holistically provides the opportunity to treat dysfunctions at their source, instead of just trying to temporarily reduce symptoms.
Hindrances to optimal function can develop for many reasons. Throughout our lives, we are exposed to a variety of physical traumas, including birth strain, falls, injuries during play and sports, motor vehicle accidents, surgeries, and illnesses. A common response to injury is the development of muscle spasm or guarding in the region, which reduces movement to protect the area from further strain.
Changes in structural alignment can occur as a direct result of the traumatic forces impacting the body, and as a consequence of the compensatory muscle guarding. Over time, this creates an area of decreased blood flow and reduced mobility of the joints and surrounding soft tissues. Even the organs in an affected area can begin to show diminished vitality in the form of sluggish or irritable digestion, reduced respiratory function, or impeded detoxification, to give a few examples.
Another frequent response to a physical or emotional trauma is the activation of the “fight or flight” mechanism of the sympathetic nervous system. If left unchecked, the resulting cascade of stress hormones can put a strain on many of the body’s systems.
The holistic approach utilized by Wendi Evans PT is aimed at restoring balance and harmony to the musculoskeletal and respiratory systems, the nervous system, the energetic matrix and the mind-body connection, if needed. As restrictions are released, the mobility of the affected structures is improved and the natural healing and corrective abilities of the patient are enhanced.
